Brands x Big Events: LAbor UNION and LaBoracay

Labor Day is here! And in the spirit of celebration, let’s give a rundown on two of the most talked about events that honor it.

LAbor UNION (held in La Union) and LaBoracay (which happens in Aklan) are often regarded as the time for Filipinos to unwind. For some, it’s the best occasion to get that much needed snooze while drinking some good booze. As for others, it’s the perfect time for a quick vacay. After all, it’s a celebration of all our hard work. And so, we usually gather with our friends & colleagues and party ‘til dawn.

And as we all know, tons of brands usually take advantage of this happening. They put up events to showcase their products & services and bring fun to Elyu and Boracay. And as an ad agency, we think it’s our God-given right to take a look into these big events and see how they play the game.

Celebration and the Game

It’s no question that LAbor UNION and LaBoracay are the best scenes for big name giants. They usually sponsor events to build their brand while communicating what they can offer to their audience. From food & liquor to skincare brands (sunscreen products!) and even telecommunication companies, you’ll surely see them there.

For now, let’s discuss some of the most notable ones:

Recently, an ice cream brand put up a big van that sold dessert crepes & milkshakes, while also giving away FREE popsicles! Plus, they put up various tents under the sun where people lounged while indulging in the desserts they offered.

On the other hand, a technology & services brand flaunted their silent disco headphones by giving people a unique experience with their powerfully clear sound + noise-canceling feature. Just about anyone who wanted to chill before the music dropped, tried it!

Apart from these, a beverage brand usually seen in LaBoracay (and also a product of one of the multinational corps who spearheaded the event), held a beach cleanup as part of their campaign. The mechanics were simple – people can sponsor a beach cleanup machine once they purchase the brand’s tumbler or merchandise. Aside from that initiative, they also held a volleyball match and a fun beach party in partnership with big international dance festivals (e.g., ZoukOut).

Lastly, a well-known telecommunications company also made a campaign centered on LaBoracay. It was called Love Boracay, which featured tons of activities including hosting a coastal cleanup, producing various merchandise, and producing a digital video that showcased their week-long efforts & celebration for the event.

Surely, there’s no doubt that when you go to these events, you’ll find these brands every year. Probably because participating in these events have helped them increase visibility and product or service trials. In fact, even after these events, people try and patronize their products and even become their loyal customers.

Hop ‘Til You Get Known!

If you ask just about anyone, they’ll definitely answer that the brands that participated in these events are now widely known by the public. That’s because they were ahead of the game as they utilized riding on pop culture that was ever so relevant to their market. However, we cannot deny that some were already big even before they joined the events. Though awareness is there, what they got from participating in these efforts was much more valuable than anything – they got brand love!

So it’s simple! If you want your brand to succeed, you should go big and consistently think out of the box to put your name out there. Try putting up big vans, giving away free products/services, or inviting well-known people who can promote what you can do. After all, a little PR won’t hurt, right?

But know that if you need a little help, tapping an ad agency like Brand Republic always does the trick! Who knows, we can even create the most exceptional experience for your audience that will make your brand come alive!
