Mother. Ma. Mommy. Nanay. Inay. No matter how we call out her name, you know she’s ready to save the day. Whenever times get tough, there’s no doubt that she’s the first person you come running to. In fact, for every challenge that your family goes through, she goes the extra mile to fix it all. It’s as if the moment that she entered motherhood, she’s become everyone to us – she’s our household’s financial manager, our personal chef, and our teacher who guides us on the right path.
Truly, most mothers, if not all, are willing to take on multiple roles to keep their families afloat – which takes a lot of courage to serve as a light and a pillar of their homes. Especially, when mothers choose to take a full-time job that demands sacrifice to make ends meet, while nurturing their children’s growth. It’s not easy but we all know that anything is possible for a mom.
So, in honor of this year’s Mother’s Day celebration, let’s recognize the Wondermoms of Brand Republic (BR) who embody the true definition of what it takes to be superb.
Going with the flow
Starting with BR’s Finance Manager, Michelle Solano, or Ms. Che as we call her, being a working mom turned out well for her. She described her first job as a blessing because she witnessed how Brandon, her son, grew up from elementary to high school. Working in her son’s school as an assistant registrar allowed her to keep a close eye on her child. And so, she was present in almost every event of her son’s childhood and teenage years. She also added that they only separated when she sent him to pursue college at the University of Philippines Los Baños. She jokingly mentioned, “Sobrang busy din siya mag aral, siya yung nawalan ng time sa akin.” But, of course, she understood that college was a different ballgame for Brandon.
When asked if she feels fulfilled in her role as a working mom, she proudly says that she would not have reached this far if she didn’t like it. After all, she’s been working with BR for almost four years now and is one of the most trusted employees of the company. Che shares that the secret to her work-life balance is accepting things with a light heart, “I believe life is easier kung tatanggapin mo ng maluwag sa dibdib ang mga bagay-bagay whether pangit or maganda. Because things happen for a reason,” she said.
Keeping all things balanced
ext, we have the BR’s Admin Manager, Christine Camba. Ms. Tin was actually featured in BR’s first-ever blog entry, The First Hire. For her, balancing work and personal life can be overwhelming at times. That’s ‘cos there are many factors to consider, which often result in having less time with her family. In fact, she even admitted that there were times that she missed out on her children’s activities in school. Though to make up for it, she reserves her weekends to attend church, dine out, and take a stroll in the mall with her family.
As for her work ethic, she always dedicates herself to the tasks given by the company by trying to be flexible and to finish other tasks at home after office hours. Tin also added that there are big shoes to fill for her to say that she has fulfilled her role as a working mom. Despite that, she’s thankful for a full-time job that provides her family with a stable income, “This teaches my children the value of self-reliance and hard work. Additionally, it helps me grow more and gain knowledge in various aspects,” she shared.
Momma’s best support system
Meanwhile, Shaira Jardinel aka Ate Shai, from the strat department, mentioned that her faith in God gives her the strength to overcome her challenges as a working mom. Moreover, with the help of her sisters, she gets to move forward in life without any hesitation. This kind of support system is what enabled her to become who she is today – ready to face any obstacle with a prevention plan prepared ahead of time.
If you ask Shai if she’s happy with her life as a working mom, she says “Yes!” with certainty. She emphasized on having a chance to be her own person pursuing her dream and at the same time, she also gets to be a mom, “I’m proud of myself na I can do both. Mahirap pero kayang kaya ko. It fulfills the heart of ‘Shaira’ and ‘Mommy Shaira’.”
The source of strength
And now, let me introduce our office messenger, Girlyn Obar or ate Lyn as we call her. Whenever we need assistance with bank transactions, preparing food during celebrations, or sifting through the storage room as we search for props for our contents, she’s always ready to help us with a smile. It is no doubt that she’s one of the most essential members of our team.
Similar to the rest of our Wondermoms, she also puts an effort to manage her time wisely to balance her job while still being present in her child’s life. Although she comes home late from work, her family finds time to check in with each other and to talk about how their day went. This simple act of connecting with her kids through their stories is her source of strength to become someone they can rely on. And sure enough, Lyn feels a sense of accomplishment as she confidently states that she has fulfilled the role of both provider and caregiver for her family.
You got this, mom!
BR’s first-time mom, Precious Capio, shared how the team supported her pregnancy. This new chapter of her life came unexpectedly while prepping for a pitch that determined her promotion as a Graphic Artist. At first, she was hesitant to bring it up to her team leader, Matt, since it was one of her goals to participate as a creative lead for a brand pitch. However, during a talk with Sir Jofel, he assured her that the company would assist her in any way they could. “If you’re happy, then happy din kami para sa’yo kasi blessing ‘yan. Then, sabihan mo lang kami if you need anything,” he said, as quoted by Precious. These words were enough to lift all the worries about her career.
Despite being in a high-risk pregnancy, she was still able to continue her job by switching to a work-from-home setup and taking on a lighter workload. But with the shift, her very first pitch was also put on hold. Regardless, she remains hopeful about her career path. In fact, she’s wildly excited for a new chapter as a first-time mom, “Natutunan kong mag-step back and reflect. Na-realize ko na hindi ko naman pala kailangan na magmadali sa goal ko. Maybe, I’m still not at that point pero, maybe soon. And for now, focus muna sa pagiging first time mom,” she explained.
P.S. did we mention that she already gave birth? On one sunny April morning, she finally welcomed her firstborn, Akira Natasia. (Congrats to our newest wondermom! ❤️)
Truly, being a mother isn’t an easy job – but more so if you’re a working mom. No college degree or textbook would tell you how to do it all. It is a gift, a power, and a duty that pushes a woman beyond her capabilities. But surely, the Wondermoms of BR are living proof that mothers know no limits in what they can do. They inspire other mamas that there’s no need to feel any guilt in pursuing a career they want to take. So, on this special today, take this chance to show how much you appreciate your mother – because even the simplest gesture of saying “thank you,” is enough to assure her that her efforts are always appreciated and will never be put to waste.
