Building Confidence: 12 Goals, 12 Months

For those of you who get excited with self-improvement, this one’s for you! 

In this article, we’re going to outline 12 steps to build your self-confidence. This means you get to focus on one item a month that can help you feel better, walk taller, and raise your head a bit higher. Hopefully, after doing this, “New Year, New Me!” isn’t just a cliché that you say, but a reality that you can claim! 🙂

STEP 1. CHECK CURRENT SOURCES OF CONFIDENCE

The first thing that you need to do is identify the things that you’re already good at and already feel proud of.

With skills, what are the things that you know you already do well? For sure, you can do some things better than others. And how about your looks? I’m pretty sure there are parts of you that you feel good about. Let’s start with those!

So for month 1, time to get to know yourself better, embrace the current wins that you have, and then work from there.

STEP 2. IDENTIFY WHAT YOU WANT

After looking at your present self, time to clearly define what you want (and those that you don’t)! For instance, in situations like how people treat others, you prefer those who are respectful rather than those who are not careful with their words. Or it can even be as simple as narrowing down your favorite restos, places to visit, or brands to support! Remember, decisiveness is one way to emanate self-confidence.

By simply deciding on these things, you will look more confident in day-to-day situations that require decision-making!

STEP 3. LOOK CLEAN AND PRESENTABLE

Of course, if you want to increase your confidence, you should also improve on your physical appearance – not that you don’t look good already! You just need to be consistent with (or level up) your personal grooming regimen by faithfully doing your daily skin care routine, going to a salon for a haircut or hair treatment at least once a month, getting your nails done every 2 weeks, and going to the dentist for that bi-annual teeth cleaning!

Remember, these things might seem small if done individually, but do them all regularly and you’ll surely feel more polished and ready to take on each day.

STEP 4. KNOW YOUR COLOR

Another step to a more gorgeous you is knowing your color!

If you wear outfits in the color that suits you best (and avoid shades that don’t), you’ll always feel good and confident about how you look. After all, the right colors will accentuate your good looks and elevate your presence.

So time to say YES to bringing the right colors to your closet and investing in clothes that match your skintone!

STEP 5. LEARN NEW SKILLS

Since you’re already investing in your physical appearance, why not improve your capabilities, too?

One way to increase your confidence is to be knowledgeable about a lot of different things. For instance, at school or at work, you can volunteer to help others with their work, which in turn will teach you things that you might not know. Another way to do this is to set a goal of learning one new thing a month. Easy, right? Then better get on with it, guys!

STEP 6. KEEP DOING YOUR HOBBIES

Now, if you’re learning new skills, don’t forget about your hobbies. 

Keep on doing them because hobbies make you feel good and happy — which then can help increase your confidence! Also, you should continue doing them since these activities may become useful in life and elevate other skills in the long run. For example, if you like reading, continuously doing this can improve your comprehension and writing skills. And, as you know, with each improvement, your confidence level will rise!

STEP 7. SAY POSITIVE THINGS TO YOURSELF EVERYDAY

If words of affirmation is your love language, then why not apply it to yourself? 

Well, whether if it’s your love language or not, you should say positive things to yourself everyday. This is because multiple sources affirm that saying good things to yourself reinforces motivation and leads to better self-perception. Hence, you won’t doubt your skills and who you are, which will lead to a higher level of confidence!

Sounds good, right? Then do this everyday and, for sure, a more confident you will pop out!

STEP 8. SURROUND YOURSELF WITH THE RIGHT PEOPLE

While investing in yourself, you must also take your surroundings into account. Like they say, a flower doesn’t bloom if it’s planted in a harsh environment. So make sure to surround yourself with people that support, inspire, and bring positivity into your life.

Additionally, veer away from people who do nothing but criticize, complain, and bring others down. After all, energy is contagious – so better surround yourself with the good kind!

STEP 9. IDENTIFY AREAS OF GROWTH

As the year is about to end, you need to evaluate your progress while not being too hard on yourself. Go look back and identify situations that you could have handled differently and commit to doing better next time. 

Should you have said NO to that friend who asked for a favor? What about that time you didn’t get a proper haircut and so didn’t feel confident for that meeting? Well, now you know what to improve on. So relax and just remember that we are all a work in progress!

STEP 10. CELEBRATE WINS

Another thing that you should do is to celebrate your wins! No matter how small, every achievement is something that you worked for – so each one deserves to be recognized and applauded. 

If you think about it, simply doing the steps here is already an achievement! For sure, doing them for almost one year was not easy, but you accepted the challenge. You decided and committed to gain more confidence by following the steps written here. So congrats! 

STEP 11. ACCEPT THE CURRENT YOU

No matter what, you should always accept who you are and what you’ve become. In that way, you can keep your head high, then easily move forward and say, “onto the next!”

Yes, you will most likely have faults that need to be addressed. You might have things about you that you want to change. But guess what? So does everyone else! The key is to first accept who you are now, then love yourself enough to become better!

STEP 12. WRITE NEW GOALS FOR NEXT YEAR

Lastly, growth doesn’t stop at the end of the year! 

So to attain the best version of yourself and maintain a high level of confidence, you must continuously strive for self-improvement – and you can start doing that by writing new goals you want to achieve for 2025!

Is there something new that you want to try? Enroll in a short-course program? Go to dance classes? Or maybe you want to focus on things that still need improvement from the previous year? Then go for it! No one’s gonna stop you. Just identify your goals and prepare yourself to slay the coming year!

So can you now feel the NEW YOU that’s coming? Keep that excitement, people! As you know, building confidence is a process — and you have a whole lifetime to do that! Just take it one step at a time, one year after another, and keep on fighting! ❤️
